Hosted by Lady Elsie and supported and presented by the members of the Steamstress Squadron and their models.

This year we bring to you our wonderful designs of Victoriana with a recycled theme and also the crazy antics of Tank Girl and friends plus other things yet to surface. Our creators range from experienced sewists to those who are handy with a safety pin or ten and everything in between.

With the promise of Squadron favourite Alice Strange providing a musical interlude and also modelling some amazing outfits this event is one not to be missed! (Did we also mention a bar at the interval?)

Decodance
The Drill

So what is the Decodance?
For the fourth year the Ministry are delighted to present our Dieselpunk inspired evening of fabulous retro-styled music, which will be hosted by Nimrod Lancaster.

The (fictitious) Dieselpunk era followed the (fictitious) Steampunk era, based around the aesthetics of the diesel-powered technology of the interwar period through to the 1950s. See more about Dieselpunk here.
The MoS coined the name ‘DecoDance’ from ‘Decadence’ which in turn came from mixing up [Art] ‘Deco’ and Decadence. The first two Asylum DecoDances took place at The Assembly Rooms, but last year at Asylum XII we moved to the larger space and amazing music venue that is the fabulous Drill Hall (which has since changed its name to 'The Drill') and we will be back there again on Friday night at Asylum XIII.
This year’s DecoDance will feature the incredible Retrobates who are an 8-piece vocal-fronted band who (like Postmodern Jukebox) specialise in performing hits from the 80's to the present day in the vintage music styles of the 20's up to the 60's. They played our sold-out Grand Asylum Ball last year and filled the dance floor for the whole of their set, including their 50’s style rendition of Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’ for the traditional Steampunk Metalliconga.
The Retrobates are all consummate musicians and whether you want to get up and dance or sit back and listen to the music while enjoying a a drink from the bar, you are sure to have a fabulous evening.
As for what to wear to the Decodance, the choice is entirely yours. You can come in steampunk, dieselpunk, 20's or 30's style or whatever takes your fancy.

But be sure to wear or bring along your dancing shoes.
Or high heels. The choice is yours!
Dr Marconi's Seance
The Blue Room

What lies behind the veil?
Do spirits exist, and if so, what can they relay to us of the world beyond?
​
Join Dr. Corvus Marconi at the Blue Room to witness a world that we cannot know, with a recreation of a traditional Victorian séance, where the spirit and the corporeal connect in meaningful discourse. He will elucidate on a number of the practices used by fraudulent mediums so attendees are aware of these charlatans and will be able to spot their chicanery.
The evening will culminate in a traditional séance held in the parlour style with selected audience members.
Please be aware, this event is purely for entertainment purposes. Not for the easily offended. Contains themes of séance, death, paranormal & personal faith.
Show is of two halves roughly 45 minutes each. There will be a fifteen minute interval.
