Weekend at the Asylum 16

Daytime Locations and the Grand Promenade on Monday

This map shows the main locations for the daytime content at Asylum 16.

On Friday the event takes place at the County Assembly Rooms on Bailgate and Westgate Academy which is on Westgate. On Saturday onwards we will also be in the castle and in the area known as St Paul in the Bail.

All of these areas are accessible with a festival wristband. The only places in the castle that you can't access with a wristband are parts of the Victorian Prison, the Magna Carta and the Wall Walk (but none of those places have any steampunk content in them).

Shown below in yellow is the route of the Grand Promenade on Monday. The muster point will be at the back of the prison and alongside the Heritage Centre in the area marked bottom left in this picture.

The University of Lincoln, the Engine Shed and Lincoln Arts Centre

The main daytime locations for Asylum 16 are around the castle area which is marked on the map below with a yellow star. Some of the evening events will be at the County Assembly Rooms which is close to the castle.

Steam Pirate Night on Friday and Time Travellers on Sunday night will take place at the Engine Shed which is also marked on the map below. Next to the Engine Shed you will find the Lincoln Arts Centre where the Burlesque Show will be taking place on Saturday night.

The University of Lincoln has student rooms available during Asylum 16. The university accommodation is in the lower part of the city, but close to the Engine Shed, so very convenient for the Engine Shed and Lincoln Arts Centre. It is marked by the bottom star on this map.

What 3 Words

The Asylum is a very busy place to be. In some of the busiest areas it can be tricky to move, not just because there are so many people, but because so many of them are fabulous, friendly, and you want to talk to them - or if you don’t, the person in front of you does. Or they want to take a photo on their mobile phone.

The whole experience is beyond wonderful, but at the same time it can be a bit daunting. And nobody wants to get separated from their friends or family or lost.

If you don’t know about the amazing App ‘what3words’, this would be the perfect time to download it onto your phone. The App divides our home planet into 3 metre squares and assigns each one a combination of three words. Once you have the App you can use it to send your precise location to another person to arrange to meet up, or you can use it to find places with much much greater precision than using a postcode or even an address.
