Steampunk New Year at the Movies

Following on from the huge success of the 2024 and 2025 Steampunk New Year events at The Belmont Hotel in Leicester we will be returning to the same venue - which is now AA 4* rated - to welcome in the New Year for 2026.

This year we have chosen 'Steampunk New Year at the Movies' as our over-arching theme and of course we will be including some features to tie in with the theme but for the most part the Ministry's New Year events are a relaxing celebratory retreat with friends, mixed with an element of escape from reality and of course the opportunity to dress in your finest to usher in the New Year in the most magnificent way you can imagine.
Guests will arrive during the afternoon and evening of Monday 29 December.
Our optional 'movie theme' for Monday will be the wide ranging 'Sci-Fi' and you can engage or not as you wish.
For health and safety reasons please note that arrival by TARDIS, teleport or other interdimensional portals should be booked in advance, please, and don't forget your passport. ​
​You may wish to meet up with other guests up for drinks in the Hotel Bar (you can expect some on-theme cocktails) and then can either eat at the hotel or else venture out to one of the nearby restaurants for supper at your own expense.
After supper please feel free to join us back at the 'wretched hive of scum and villany' of the Mos Eisley Cantina (the hotel bar) for a drink or two; just don't mention that you have the 'death sentence on twelve systems'.
Our 'movie theme' for Saturday will be 'Murder Mystery' which should give us some daytime fun. Last year we had crafting sessions, teapot racing, talks, gaming, visits to nearby places of interest, dance lessons, unaccompanied singing and a host of other fun things to dip in and out of as guests wished. Another escape room could well be on the cards, given the murder mystery theme.
We are confident that 'Murder Mystery' will give chef lots of ideas for the evening buffet meal, which if anything like the last two years will be an absolute feast. We will plan a little entertainment too - a couple of years back we had a port tasting and last year a quiz. You can dress as you wish for the evening, but make sure you keep your wits about you...
New Year's Eve is likely to begin with Breakfast at Tiffany's as the theme for the whole day as well as the New Year Gala Ball will be 'Hollywood Glamour'.
As soon as we have this year's menu we will share it here and on our Facebook page, but you can expect it to be an extraordinary gastronomic experience fit for the finest imaginable Steampunk celebration of New Year.
After dinner we will have music and dancing and conversation all culminating in seeing in the New year together; the perfect end to 2025 and start to 2026.
​On Thursday morning, 1 January, breakfast will be served rather later than usual after which guests will say their farewell to the Hotel and their amazing staff for another year.

Room bookings have been open for a while already and many booking have been made by guests who came the last two years. If you came one of the last two years you won't need any persuading that this year will be a brilliant occasion. If you didn't come last year then please do come along. It is an MoS Steampunk event like no other, where the organisers and guests all get to spend a few days together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Some very strong friendships have grown out of previous MoS New Year events, including between the current MoS organising team!
